What are Lumineers

As we get older, it’s common for our teeth to begin showing signs of wear and tear. This can either be from the foods we eat, our daily habits, or simply because we’ve reached a certain age. This can result in cracks, small chips, or other imperfections. As a result, many dental practices are offering varying levels of cosmetic dentistry, including porcelain veneers. However, many patients don’t want to buff down enamel, especially if they already experience teeth sensitivity or their enamel has eroded.
That’s where Lumineers from Dr. Davina Prida, your cosmetic dentist in Dallas, come in. Contact our office today to get started transforming your smile!
LUMINEERS - Inwood Village Dental

How Do Dental Lumineers Differ from Veneers?

While porcelain veneers are generally thin, Lumineers are much thinner in comparison. In fact, they’re approximately 0.2 millimeters thin, highly translucent, and fully capable of replicating enamel. The only difference is they don’t require buffing down of enamel like porcelain veneers because of their ultra-thin qualities.

Unlike porcelain veneers, dental Lumineers are fully reversible because there is no grinding down of healthy enamel in order to have them placed. Your natural teeth will remain intact and strong should you ever want to remove them. This is also ideal if you experience a dental injury and the veneer comes off.
What’s even more incredible about Lumineers is the fact that they don’t compromise on durability due to their thickness. In fact, clinical testing has shown that they can last as long as 20 years. Just make sure to maintain a consistent at-home oral care routine and visit Dr. Prida for checkups and cleanings every six months.

The Procedure for Lumineers

The procedure is similar to that of porcelain veneers, but without the drilling or buffing that’s involved with porcelain veneers. During the first visit, Dr. Prida will learn about your smile goals and take a precise mold of your tooth. Then, she’ll determine the shade that is right for you and send the mold off to a dental lab. During this waiting period, you won’t have to wear temporary veneers like you would traditionally.
Once the Lumineers are created, you’ll come back for your second appointment after about two weeks and have them checked for fit and shade. Finally, she’ll lightly etch the surface of your enamel in order to create a better surface for bonding and place them. Keep in mind that this process is painless, requires no drilling and no numbing shots!
